    From Philadelphia (all points westbound)

    Take Rt. 76 West, exit at RT. 202 and go South proceed 3 miles and exit at the Valley Forge exit (Rt.252). At the first light make a right. Go to the next light and make a left. Go half a block and turn left into our back parking lot.

    From PA Turnpike (all points southbound)
    Exit at 24(Valley Forge) after toll booth take 202 South. Proceed 3 miles and exit at Valley Forge Rd North (Rt. 252) At first light make a right. Next light make a left and go a half block. Turn left into our back parking lot.

    From West Chester (all points northbound)
    Take Rt. 202 North. Exit at Valley Forge Road North Make a left at first light. Go to next light (Swedesford Rd.) make a left. Go to second light Make a right on Valley Forge Rd. Proceed 50 yards to next light and make left.

    From Collegeville (all points eastbound)
    Take Rt. 422 East. Exit at Rt. 202 South. Go to Valley Forge Rd North (252) and exit. Make a right at first light. Make a left at next light. Go a half block and turn left into back parking lot.

  • The Legend

    RAISING SPIRITS SINCE 1746

    Named in honor of the fighting spirit that forged our great nation.

    Since 1746, the building that houses this tavern has played a part in the establishment of our nation; first as a respite for stagecoach travelers expanding westward and later as a covert rendezvous point for George Washington, Marquis de Lafayette, and other leaders of the American revolution.

    It is believed that during the infamous winter of 1777–1778 at Valley Forge, a major figure in the Continental Army, master military mind Friedrich Von Steuben, designated the tavern as a secret black powder munitions stash for Continental Army couriers. All the while, the tavern continued to provide food, shelter and cheer to the hungry, weary soldiers fighting for their independence.

    Today, we honor our historic tavern’s tradition with a mission to raise the spirits of our guests. We invite you to experience the small and large plates, craft beers and revolutionary hospitality that is Black Powder Tavern.
